I never thought I would see the day that Fidel Castro, obvious in ailing health, would get an audience from anyone from Congress, yet it did, in fact, happen.  What actually happened was that the Congressional Black Caucus paid the former Cuban dictator a visit.  The event – in and of itself -was uneventful, as far as I was concerned.  What made the visit unusual was the fact that the Caucus – all Democraps, I might add – said after meeting Castro that the travel embargo between the U.S. and Cuba should end.

To illustrate how much Castro Koolaid the Caucus drank – and the pitcher was flowing, trust me – the Caucus chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) said that,

“The fifty-year embargo just hasn’t worked. The bottom line is that we believe its time to open dialogue with Cuba.”

Bobby Rush from Illinois – yeah Bobby Rush – said that talking to Castro was like talking to an old friend.  Yeeesh!!  Then there was California Democrap Laura Richardson.  She sang the praises of Castro, too.  What’s rather funny was that she said that Castro asked her,

‘How can we help? How can we help President Obama?’”

My take on all of this?  Pretty simple, actually.  First of all, the Caucus is no more than a bunch of naive, simple-minded politicians who like the Europeans, were star-struck – only in this case were star-struck by Fidel Castro.  Secondly, although they are Democraps and basically run everything in D.C., they really cannot be taken seriously.

Also, keep in mind that there’s a rather large percentage of the Cuban-American community who are not in favor of relaxing the U.S.-Cuba embargo.  Why do you think they all left Cuba in the first place?  Also, who really minds the store in Cuba these days? Fidel or his brother Raul?

Nonetheless, there will be a time when Fidel kicks the bucket as will his brother – Raul’s no spring chicken, you know – then that will offer a golden opportunity for the U.S. – presumably after the 2010 elections when the GOP takes back Congress – to introduce democracy to the island.  Once democracy has been embedded in Cuba, only then will a lifting of the embargo make good sense.  Until then?  Forget about it.
