Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced the following Department of Defense Senior Executive Service, senior leader, and scientific and professional appointments and reassignments:

• John F. Shortal, has been appointed to the Senior Executive Service and is assigned as director for joint history, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C. Shortal previously served as the assistant to the chief of military history for the Army, Washington, D.C.

• Earl C. Wyatt has been appointed to the Senior Executive Service and is assigned as director for rapid transition, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics), Washington, D.C. Wyatt previously served with Booz Allen Hamilton, Washington, D.C.   

• William H. Campbell has been assigned as director for operations, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), Washington, D.C. Campbell previously served as the deputy director for operations, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), Washington, D.C.
