The chief of staff, Air Force announced today the following assignments:

  • Brig. Gen. Alfred J. Stewart, commander, Air Force Recruiting Service, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, to commander, Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.
  • Col. Balan R. Ayyar, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, military assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., to commander, Air Force Recruiting Service, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.
  • Brig. Gen. Michael J. Carey, deputy commander, space support and integration, J3A, Headquarters U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., to deputy director, command and control and nuclear operations, J3, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

  • Brig. Gen. Jeffrey B. Kendall, deputy director, intelligence, operations and nuclear integration for flying training, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, to commander, 502nd Air Base Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
  • Col. David W. Allvin, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, military fellow, Council on Foreign Relations, New York City, N.Y., to commanding general, Combined Air Power Transition Force, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training Mission-Afghanistan/Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan/commander, 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, Kabul, Afghanistan.

  • Maj. Gen. Douglas J. Robb, command surgeon, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., to joint staff surgeon, J-4, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
  • Brig. Gen. Bart O. Iddins, command surgeon, Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Fla., to command surgeon, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
  • Col. Linda R. Urrutia-Varhall, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, senior military assistant to the under secretary of defense for intelligence, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., to deputy, deputy chief of staff, intelligence, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan.

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, for reappointment to the rank of general and assignment as commander, U. S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.  Odierno is currently serving as commander, U.S. Forces-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.

In addition, the Chief of Staff, Army announced today the following assignments:

  • Maj. Gen. Gregg F. Martin, to commandant, U. S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa.  He most recently served as commanding general, U. S. Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, and Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
  • Reserve Brig. Gen. Lawrence W. Brock III, commander, 359th Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon, Ga., to deputy chief of staff, C-6, Coalition Forces Land Component Command/commander, 335th Theater Signal Command, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
  • Brig. Gen. Heidi V. Brown, deputy commanding general (sustainment), I Corps and Fort Lewis, Fort Lewis, Wash., to director of integration, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, U. S. Army, Washington, D.C.
  • Brig. Gen. Arnold N. Gordon-Bray, deputy commanding general, U. S. Army Cadet Command, Fort Monroe, Va., to deputy director of Operations and Facilities Headquarters, Installation Management Command, San Antonio, Texas.

  • Brig. Gen. Bryan J. Benson, commander, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command, Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates, to vice commander, 18th Air Force, Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
  • Col. Edward M. Minahan, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, to commander, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command, Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates. Minahan is currently serving as executive officer to the deputy commander, Headquarters U.S. European Command, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany.
  • Col. Donald S.
