More than three-quarters of the needed members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed onto a measure to have a new vote on Obamacare that essentially would allow the chamber to withdraw its approval of the law and begin the process of banishing it from American shores.

But another effort has enabled some 31,000 voices across America – so far – to offer their encouragement to members of the House who have yet to sign the discharge petition offered by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

The campaign is a petition drive that urges members of Congress to repeal Obamacare because of several problems:

  • Whereas, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, approved by a narrow vote of the House of Representatives earlier this year, threatens to transform the U.S. health-care system from its roots in free enterprise and personal choice;
  • Whereas, the act is unconstitutional because of its unprecedented requirement that Americans purchase a service;
  • Whereas, the system the law would create is financially unsustainable, places personal medical decisions in the hands of bureaucrats and is likely to lead to rationing of health-care options;
  • Whereas, the act is likely to result in forcing some 87 million Americans to drop their current health-care coverage;
  • Whereas, the costs involved in complying with the law are likely to cost more Americans their jobs, inhibit the creation of new employment opportunities and suppress wages…

The petition drive was launched by Joseph Farah, founder and CEO of WorldNetDaily, who said the results are worthy of note already.

“This is a very impressive petition, but it will be much more impressive at 100,000 or 200,000 or 1 million,” he said. “We need people signing and spreading the news about this effort – news that has not been reported anywhere else expect at WND.”

The newest signatures added to the House discharge petition are Steven C. Latourette of Ohio, Dean Heller of Nevada and Peter T. King of New York.

“Who would have thought we might have a chance to repeal Obamacare – this term?” said Farah.

Farah’s public petition drive is intended to coalesce support for King’s measure.

The petition, with the addition of the newest three names, has 165 signatures of the 218 it would need to advance – even in the face of continued opposition from Obamacare promoter House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Under the provisions of the discharge procedures in the House, such a move is required to have the support of 218 members, a majority, of the 435-member chamber before moving forward.

But since it requires a majority, it is virtually assured of approval once it reaches the point of being advanced.

King has told WND the entire GOP leadership team in the House is on board, as well as the full delegations from California and Texas. He’s working on obtaining the last few GOP signatures before turning his attention to the Democrats.

All of the GOP representatives and 34 Democrats opposed Obamacare when it was passed on a narrow 219-212 vote earlier this year. King said 212 representatives, at least, should be in favor of overturning it, since they opposed it before.

Then it will be up to the four, five or six Democrat votes that would be needed to turn from endorsement to rejection for it to advance.

“This is starting to come together,” King told WND just days ago. “All the Republicans [earlier] voted no. We should all be for repeal.”

He said he’s counting on the 34 Democrats who voted no to “demonstrate the courage of their convictions” by supporting a repeal plan.

Many will be running for re-election, King noted, in districts where the majority of voters want the law repealed. And there are Democrats who voted for Obamacare who face election challenges in a field of voters irritated by the law’s new taxes and intrusions into their lives.

King told WND that if the discharge petition is successful, it will be a “resounding message” to Pelosi, who said Congress would have to vote for the health-care plan before people could know what was in it.

King’s plan is to “pull out by the roots” the legislation that, among other things, will require citizens to provide their “body-mass index” rating to the government and purchase “government-approved” health insurance whether they want it or not.

The proposal states:

“Pursuant to clause 2 of rule XV, I, Steve King of Iowa, move to discharge the Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, Education and Labor, the Judiciary, Natural Resources, Rules, House Administration and Appropriations from the consideration of the bill (H.R. 4972) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was referred to said committees on March 25, 2010, in support of which motion the undersigned Members of the House of Representatives affix their signatures.”

Its target is the $940 billion, or greater, bill adopted by the Democrat-controlled Congress in March.

Advocates say constituents need to call their representatives to tell them to get on board right away so that the petition is positioned to move forward whether or not the GOP becomes the majority in the House after the 2010 fall elections.

King has explained, “Republicans are the proponents of limited government, personal responsibility and constitutional liberties, principles which ‘Obamacare’ violates. Recognizing this fact, every House Republican voted against ‘Obamacare’ just three months ago. Now that our repeal effort has been endorsed by House GOP leadership, House Republicans should stand by their votes by signing onto discharge petition No. 11.”

He said, “The American people did not want Obamacare passed, and they have consistently called for their representatives to show that they stand with them by repealing the legislation. Our discharge petition provides an avenue for repeal that even Speaker Pelosi cannot block. Republicans recognize that a clean, 100-percent repeal bill is the best strategy for uprooting ‘Obamacare’ lock, stock and barrel, and will continue to show their commitment to Obamacare’s repeal by quickly signing our discharge petition.”

Congressional officials said Pelosi, an adamant advocate for government-controlled health care, never would allow a vote on a plan to overturn Obamacare. But through the discharge-petition process in the House, if a majority of members sign on, she cannot stop it. It still would need to be moved through the Senate and, ultimately, the Oval Office, possibly by a veto override.

An inside congressional source told WND the pressure also will be on all other members as the November 2010 elections approach, since poll after poll has indicated a significant majority of Americans dislike Obamacare to the point of seeking its repeal.

The issue is expected to play a role in the elections, with voters, especially supporters of tea-party principles, calling on their representatives to stand up against what a multitude of lawsuits already are describing as an unconstitutional power grab by Democrats.

Both Democrats and Republicans will have to answer to voters on the issue, the source said.

And, whether the Republicans or the Democrats are in a majority after the fall elections, the petition will put the issue in a position to be forwarded immediately.

“This isn’t a battle we want to give up on,” the source told WND. “Obamacare needs to get pulled out by the roots.”

  • WND also reported recently when House Minority Leader John Boehner gave Obamacare a failing grade for its first three months due to evidence of billions in new taxes, job losses it will trigger, its increase of the deficit and other impacts Americans now are discovering.

It’s being revealed that nearly another half a billion dollars in taxes for Obama’s plan will come from charity-based 501(c)(3) hospitals and a whopping $70 billion will come from those who don’t buy “government-approved” health insurance or in some other way fail to comply with the law’s demands.

A recent poll by the Obama-friendly CNN revealed 56 percent of the public disapproves of the law.

“While rushing their massive government takeover of health care through Congress, President Obama and congressional Democrats promised it would create jobs, lower costs, reduce the deficit, allow Americans to keep their health care, protect seniors’ coverage, prohibit taxpayer-funded abortion and, of course, gain the support of the American people,” Boehner’s report said.

“It isn’t just that none of these promises or predictions have turned out to be true. In every instance, Obamacare has made matters worse,” the report said.

    Among the study’s conclusions:

    • “Some of the nation’s largest employers have announced they will be forced to make cutbacks as a result of Obamacare’s job-killing mandates.”
    • “Two independent government entities … have confirmed that the new law fails to lower health-care costs and reduce the deficit.”
    • “Obamacare includes at least a dozen violations of President Obama’s pledge to not raise taxes on middle-class families.”
    • “The government has confirmed that the new law’s massive Medicare cuts will fall squarely on the backs of seniors, millions of whom will be forced off their current Medicare coverage.”

The report also said Obama officials have confirmed their new law “will force some 87 million Americans to drop their current coverage despite President Obama’s promise that Americans would be able to keep the coverage that they have.”

The report further states Obama has done nothing to implement his executive order that was supposed to prevent taxpayer funding of abortions.

The result is that people like it no better now – or even less – than before they knew many of the details. Dozens of states also have revolted against the plan.

“This report chronicles Obamacare’s broken promises in the three months since it became law,” Boehner said. “The American people remain squarely opposed to this government takeover of health care that has already failed to live up to specific promises made by President Obama and Washington Democrats.

“Republicans are listening to the American people, and fighting to repeal Obamacare so we can replace it with common-sense reforms focused on lowering costs and protecting jobs,” he said.

According to the plan, some $400 million will hit nonprofit hospitals, $17 billion will come from those “who do not purchase government-approved health insurance,” another $52 billion will hit workers “who fail to fully comply with government health-insurance mandates,” and a tax hike for Medicare will pull another $210 billion from the grocery budgets of Americans.

More than 130 top economists also submitted a document, according to the report, that “the health-care bill contains a number of provisions that will eliminate jobs, reduce hours and wages and limit future job creation.”

Obama’s law is facing a number of lawsuits contesting its constitutionality, claiming the federal government has no right to require consumers to participate in a business transaction – the purchase of health insurance – if they choose not to.

Well there you have it, folks. Do you want to ensure that Obamacare, in its current form, gets repealed? All you have to do is sign a petition that will go to the House of Representatives. Click here to sign the petition.

Republican Tom Graves has been elected to the U.S. House in a special election runoff in Georgia.

With 67 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial returns show Graves with 59 percent of the vote on Tuesday, defeating Republican Lee Hawkins who had 41 percent.

The 40-year-old Graves will fill the remainder of Nathan Deal’s term that runs through the end of the year. Deal stepped down earlier this year to seek the Republican nomination for Georgia governor.

Graves ran with support from the Atlanta Tea Party Patriots, the anti-tax group Club for Growth and Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the U.S. House.

News of the death of 77-year old Congressman John Murtha, of Pennsylvania, on Monday garnered the usual coverage afforded a high-profile political leader by the news media and the Beltway elites.

Even Republicans fawned over his long record in the House of Representatives. For example, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said, “Every person who serves in the military has lost an advocate and a good friend. The House of Representatives has lost one of its own.”

One can only wonder if Rep. Boehner recalls that Murtha publicly called U.S. Marines “cold-blooded murders” during the height of warfare in Iraq.

It should be remembered that John Murtha never apologized for his allegation that U.S. Marines were guilty of killing Iraqi civilians in cold blood.

Murtha made the comments in question during a press conference he held, and during his frequent appearances on TV news shows, claiming “Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”  Murtha made his remarks regarding an incident that happened in Haditha, Iraq.

During a news conference, Rep. Murtha  discussed the incident with reporters as he continued “the Murtha anti-war diatribe,” and said that the U.S. should pull the troops out of Iraq.

He said a Pentagon investigation would ultimately show that the troops in Haditha “overreacted because of the pressure on them and killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” The Marines involved had not been tried yet but were either in a brig at Camp Pendleton Marine Base or resticted to the base pending legal proceedings.

Murtha, who claims close ties to top defense officials as a retired Marine colonel and the top-ranking Democrat, said he had not read the Pentagon report because was basing his information on frequent discussions with “the commanders,” he said, “People that know what they’re talking about.” Murtha did not disclose the names of these commanders or their connection to the incident and subsequent investigation.

Eventually all of the Marines involved were found not guilty, yet Murtha refused to apologize.

Murtha’s position on the Iraq war and his biting comments did much to erase the memories of his ties to the Abscam corruption investigation and the susbsequent allegations of his shenanigans with his brother’s consulting firm. The anti-war leftists — including members of the news media – appear to overlook corruption on the part of their heroes, said one political observer.

Murtha was a holier-than-thou Democrat with ethics concerns. The House Ethics committee was considering investigating Rep. John Murtha for multiple ethics violations. The investigation would have centered on Rep. Murtha’s involvement with his brother’s firm KSA Consulting. The story, which originally ran in the Los Angeles Times on 13 June, surrounds the 2005 appropriations bill that funded $20M to companies for which KSA Consulting lobbied.

Murtha was a leader on the House Defense Appropriations Committee. An aide to Murtha, Carmen Scialabba, also worked for KSA. Also reported by the L.A. Times is that KSA directly lobbied Murtha’s office for funding on behalf of 7 of its clients and that a Murtha aide advised a defense contractor that it needed to retain the services of KSA Consulting.

While his passing is indeed sad, the United States is better off without having John Murtha in the U.S. Congress. God rest his soul.

(Washington , D.C.) U.S. Congressman Paul C. Broun, M.D. (GA-10) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to increase the debt limit, for the sixth time in three years, to $14,294,000,000,000.

“After Congress’ outrageous spending spree, it comes as no big surprise that the federal government has run out of money.  So you know what the natural response would be, Democrats in Congress decided to bail themselves out.  Rather than following the lead of the American people and cutting back, Democrats have abused the power of the purse by increasing their spending limit,” said Broun. “If the American people cannot afford to go further into debt, neither should the federal government.”

“I have introduced a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget that ensures Washington does not spend more money than it brings in.  Congress must now make tough decisions, reign in runaway deficits, and reduce our debt.  The American people are demanding this and we must not let them down,” said Broun.

Christian leaders — including Bill Donohue, Richard Land and Pat Robertson – representing millions of evangelicals, Roman Catholics, and other Christians have sent a letter to leaders in the US House of Representatives today urging immediate passage of tough sanctions on Iran intended to prevent that rogue regime from obtaining nuclear weapons, according to a report submitted to the 14,000-member National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Besides its determination to acquire nuclear weapons, Iran remains one of the world’s leading supporters of terrorism including Tehran’s material support for Hezbollah.

“Now that super-majorities in the House and Senate have made their support for sanctions known, and now that the Iranian regime has made its increasing defiance clear to the world, the time for Congress to act has arrived,” according to Dr. Richard Land, of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. The letter urges the House to pass, at a minimum, a cut-off of exports of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, as a firm yet peaceful measure against the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.

After repeated efforts to persuade Iran to comply with international obligations and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recently reported to its member nations that diplomatic efforts with the Iranian regime have come to a “dead end.” Since then, Iranian officials have announced plans to begin building additional nuclear facilities.

The leaders point out that at the onset of his efforts with Iran this spring, President Obama said that “by the end of the year we should have some sense whether or not these discussions are starting to yield significant benefits,” and specifically held out the prospect of sanctions against Tehran “to ensure that Iran understands we are serious.” That deadline is days away, and just as President Obama said, Tehran needs proof we are serious.

The Leaders include Pat Robertson of Christian Broadcasting Network, Richard Land of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Bill Donohue of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, Dr. James Merritt of Cross Pointe Church, Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America, Gary Bauer of American Values, Tom Minnery of Focus on the Family, and Dr. John Hagee of the Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, and Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice.

The coalition argues that Iran’s nuclear weapons program will destabilize the Middle East, lead to an arms race in a volatile part of the world, and threaten the United States and its allies in Europe.

During his testimony before the US House of Representatives’ Armed Services Committee, Marine General Peter Pace, former President George W. Bush’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, asserted that Hamas had joined Hezbullah and Al-Qaeda in the Triple Frontier Zone in Latin America where the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay converge.

It is there, he stated, that the Islamic terror groups train recruits, gather intelligence on targets, launder money and sell drugs. There is evidence that these terrorists and narco-terrorists will soon migrate north into the United States. General Pace cited terrorism reports indicating terrorist groups are active in Canada and Central-South America.

Apparently, both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations ignored the words of General Pace and other national security experts since neither Commander in Chief took comprehensive steps to bolster border security and attack immigration fraud.

Immigration fraud is a proven method used by criminals and terrorists to gain entry into the United States illegally to carry out their agendas, according to a government report obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Identity and Benefits Fraud Unit, an investigative component of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is the agency responsible for detecting, deterring, and disrupting the fraudulent schemes used by terrorist and criminal organizations. In just one year, the IBF Unit opened about 4,000 new cases of immigration fraud and received or developed thousands of leads. However, experts believe these cases are only the “tip of the iceberg.”

As the largest investigative arm in the Department of Homeland Security, ICE unites the functions, resources, and legal authorities of several previously fragmented border and security organizations into an integrated homeland security agency focused on investigations and enforcement.

ICE’s mission is to prevent terrorist and criminal acts by targeting the people, money, and materials that support terrorist and criminal networks. A key tool in committing immigration fraud is the use of fraudulent documents.

These documents can be used to gain illegal entry to the United States, traffic or smuggle aliens, obtain government benefits, or obtain unauthorized employment. ICE investigators target criminal organizations that deal in fraudulent documents, shutting down a key vulnerability in the immigration system.

For example, a recent case in Washington, DC saw ICE agents target four document fraud/counterfeiting operations, seizing over 1,800 false documents, shutting down four document mills, and apprehending 50 illegal aliens.

ICE’s Forensic Documents Laboratory (FDL) is a critical investigative tool in the fight against immigration fraud and counterfeiting. The FDL is the only federal crime lab devoted almost entirely to the forensic examination of documents and offers a full line of analysis and examination services to law enforcement agencies nationwide.

The IBF Unit is leading the fight against immigration fraud through a variety of strategic initiatives. The National Fraud Strategy is the IBF Unit’s key antifraud effort focused on identifying targets and developing criteria for prioritizing cases. The NFS expands the unit’s investigative capabilities with newly established Benefit Fraud Units, task forces, and other strategic enforcement strategies.

The NFS also seeks to detect and shut down vulnerabilities in the immigration system that could be exploited by terrorist and criminal organizations.ICE also participates in the interagency Identity & Benefits Fraud Task Force, which seeks to restore integrity to the immigration process and prevent terrorists and criminals from entering the United States.

The task force brings together the expertise and authorities of several immigration and law enforcement agencies, along with prosecutors, to target immigration fraud by sharing information on fraud cases, developing new leads, and identifying trends in immigration fraud. Participants include ICE, the Department of State, the Department of Labor, the Social Security Administration, the FBI, the IRS, the US Postal Service, US Attorneys’ offices, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Fairfax County Police Department.

Operation Integrity is an IBF Unit initiative to restore integrity to the immigration system and to address vulnerabilities in the system that terrorist or criminal organizations could exploit to gain entry to the country. Operation Integrity will support a nationwide system of “IBF Task Forces” to detect, deter, and disrupt criminal and terrorist organizations that attempt to exploit the immigration system, using the full range of ICE’s investigative capabilities to fight IBF fraud.

Unfortunately, the amount of money allocated to these programs is minimal compared to other government activities especially entitlement programs. Some cynics believe that the reason for government stinginess when it comes to immigration enforcement and related activities is the lack of opportunity for politicians to garner pork-barrel cash with such enforcement programs.
